Quzhou completes 2025 public welfare projects
In 2025, the municipal government of Quzhou, Zhejiang province, implemented a series of public welfare projects to address residents' concerns and improve their quality of life.
All 10 projects were completed ahead of schedule, with six exceeding their targets.
The city continued its "Drink Good Water" initiative to enhance rural water safety, extending supply networks to mountain villages and upgrading 109 single-village water stations. This effort raised the compliance rate of rural water supply quality to 99.6 percent.
In line with expanding access to quality public services, the city advanced the "Bulk-Purchase Medicines to Grassroots" healthcare initiative. This extended bulk-purchase drug benefits from public hospitals to local retail outlets, saving locals over 100 million yuan ($14.37 million) in medication costs annually.
The city also upgraded sports facilities at 50 public schools and opened them to the public free of charge. Five new public parking facilities, including underground parking lots, added 588 parking spaces. The "Cylinder to Pipeline" project converted 3,250 households to piped gas, lowering living costs for residents.
Education initiatives included the "Lying Down during Lunch Break" project, which equipped over 63,000 students with rest facilities, and the "Air Conditioning in Schools" project, which installed 2,686 units to enhance comfort. The "Summer Care" program services were used over 11,000 times, easing childcare burdens.
For vulnerable groups, the "Safe Living" project installed 25,000 smart security devices for over 6,000 elderly people living alone. The city also provided assistive devices and services to 75,000 individuals with disabilities, addressing diverse needs.
