Gaotiankeng village in Changhong township — located in Kaihua county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province — recently became a stargazing mecca, as astronomy enthusiasts from all over gathered to witness the Perseid meteor shower on Aug 12.

The thousand-year-old village, situated over 600 meters above sea level and free from light pollution, is renowned as one of East China's premier stargazing locations.

The event marked the peak of the meteor shower and launched the "Dark Night Exploration: Sleeping Under the Stars" camping series.

Kaihua county has creatively combined natural resources, astronomy popularization and education, and cultural tourism to develop a thriving "stargazing tourism" industry.

The county offers various stargazing-related experiences — including camping and study tours — establishing itself as a tourist hotspot.

The event attracted over 2,000 participants, featuring activities such as music parties and outdoor movies.

Since the start of summer, Changhong township has seen about 30,000 visits, with local accommodation generating significant revenue.
