Quzhou documentary on Doolittle Raid Rescue to premiere globally
The English version of the documentary series entitled Finding Doolittle, filmed entirely by a local team of Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province, is set to premiere on China Global Television Network's News channel on Aug 13 and will air on the CGTN's Documentary channel from Aug 15.
The documentary will be broadcast in over 100 countries and regions worldwide. It highlights Quzhou's unique contributions to the World Anti-Fascist War and the profound friendship that was forged in the city between the people of China and the United States.
In 1942, after a daring bombing raid on Japan, 75 US airmen led by Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle were forced to bail out or crash-land in China after running out of fuel. The Chinese people rescued 64 of them, including those who recuperated in Quzhou.
To reveal this little-known history, the production team gathered extensive footage, totaling over 6,000 minutes, from various locations — including the Memorial Hall to the Doolittle Raid in Quzhou and historical sites across Anhui, Jiangxi, and Fujian provinces.
Directed by Wang Xiangyang, the team utilized innovative storytelling techniques and advanced technologies like scene modeling and AI to recreate the Doolittle Raid rescue stories.
The documentary is divided into three chapters — "Three Embraces", "Three Photos", and "Exploration through Three Generations" — offering a unique perspective on these touching stories.
