Qujiang district in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has tapped into the burgeoning short drama industry, establishing a comprehensive production chain that has quickly become a new economic driver.

With 27 film-related companies and partnerships with seven leading production firms, Qujiang has produced a total of 130 short dramas, spurring over 13 million yuan ($1.81 million) in cultural and tourism spending.

The Meigao Short Drama Super Factory, a 59,000-square-meter facility in Qujiang district, houses over 200 different settings, allowing rapid transitions between scenes. About 38 crews filmed at the facility in May alone, 33 of which have completed their projects, with some hits receiving over 100 million views.

Popular short dramas have turned local spots like Duzhe Old Street and Tianji Longmen Scenic Area into tourist hotspots, attracting over 25,000 visitors in 2024 and boosting local tourism revenue by 12 million yuan.

Dai Wenxue, a representative of the Meigao Short Drama Super Factory, announced plans to complete a 49,000-square-meter ancient setting by year's end, further enhancing local industries like dining and lodging.

To boost the short drama industry, Qujiang has introduced supportive policies, including creative incentives and tax benefits, and increased efforts to attract young talent. The district is also exploring innovative models combining its short drama industry with e-commerce and cultural tourism.
