David Ferguson's Storytelling: The colorful village
When you stroll through Yudong village, you will encounter splashes of color at every corner you turn. David W. Ferguson, honorary chief English editor at Foreign Languages Press, was deeply enchanted by this artistic village outside of Quzhou city.
Many of the gable ends and the street fronts of the buildings in Yudong are decorated with murals and other paintings, and the streets are filled with sculptures and other artworks. Among the around 800 inhabitants of Yudong, 300 of them are also painters.
Painting is more than an intriguing hobby for Yudong. The village's annual income from painting and related industries reached around 30 million yuan ($4.10 million), adding more than 5,000 yuan to the per capita income.
