Twelve representatives of children's observation teams from Quzhou, Zhejiang province attended the fifth session of the eighth Quzhou people's congress on Jan 19 with their suggestions for the city's improvement.
The atmosphere at the meeting was solemn yet lively. The young representatives sat up straight, as they attentively listened to the annual government work report of Quzhou.
Among them was Li Chengxi, attending for the second time. His excitement and pride were undiminished. He expressed hope that the city would continue to focus on children's growth and development, creating more opportunities for learning and practice. Li proposed to set up kid-friendly school routes.
Since its inception in 2022, the Quzhou Children's Observation Team has encouraged children to observe the city, think critically, and put forward suggestions for the city's development from their unique perspectives.
By the end of 2024, over 230 children's observation teams had been formed across the city, involving more than 2,600 children. In two years, over 1,000 suggestions have been implemented, including colorful crosswalks, book-sharing corners, and children's bus routes.
Involving children in the important meeting not only respects and fulfills their right to participate but also exemplifies Quzhou's commitment to building a kid-friendly city.
