A classroom of the Papiermacherschule Gernsbach had a meaningful cultural exchange event where a teacher from the Zhejiang Quzhou Gongshang School in Longyou county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province introduced Longyou's traditional papermaking, according to Tide News on Oct 30.
Guo Ping has been teaching papermaking for 18 years and has won various teaching awards. She told the class about the origins, process, and legacy of China's traditional papermaking skills. The class marveled at the process of making Longyou bast paper.
"This class not only builds a bridge between Chinese and German cultures and shows the charm of traditional Chinese skills, but also sets an example for the global inheritance and promotion of intangible cultural heritage," said Matthias Walter, principal of Papiermacherschule Gernsbach.
This year, Papiermacherschule Gernsbach and the Zhejiang Quzhou Gongshang School have carried out exchange activities to discuss the modern papermaking skills as well as the differences between Chinese and Western papermaking.
In addition, the delegates of the Zhejiang Quzhou Gongshang School visited three well-known European papermakers to get a comprehensive understanding of their production technology, process flow, and sustainability measures.
