The Xinan Lake near Shawan village in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, is now a rising hub for water sports, attracting both athletes and travelers, Tide News reported on Oct 12.

Hosting national events like the "Marathon Swimming Championships" and "Open Water Lifesaving Paddleboard Competition" has put Shawan on the map and stirred local excitement.

Since 2022, the village has undergone a momentous transformation, with new piers, walkways, and other infrastructure designed to support water sports. These upgrades have turned the area into a go-to spot for professionals and amateurs alike, adding depth to its cultural and recreational appeal.

In early 2023, Quzhou launched a "wild but swimmable" initiative, converting natural swimming spots into safe, regulated open-water areas. Over the past year, 18 such locations have been established, primarily in rural areas.

These natural pools now boast designated swim zones, lifeguards, safety signage, and modern facilities, drawing those eager for outdoor adventure.
