Quzhou to host national athletics with urban twist
A news conference was held on Sept 4 for the 2024 National Athletics Championships, which are set to take place from Sept 13 to 16 in Quzhou, Zhejiang province.
This year's championships have attracted 33 teams consisting of 828 athletes nationwide, who will compete in 38 events for a total of 114 medals.
The women's pole vault finals will be held on the evening of Sept 13 at the Quzhou Cultural and Arts Center and near the Civic Service Center, while the remaining 37 events will be held from Sept 14 to 16 at the Quzhou Sports Center.
In an innovative move to bring sports closer to the public, Quzhou will once again integrate athletic competitions with city life. This year, the women's pole vault event will be held on the street near the Quzhou Cultural and Arts Center and Civic Service Center, bringing audiences closer to the action and merging urban life with competitive sports.
At the press conference, four-time Olympic veteran Xie Zhenye, who is set to compete in Quzhou, expressed his excitement about returning to the city. He said he looks forward to experiencing the athletic atmosphere and plans to enjoy Quzhou's beautiful scenery and unique cuisine after the competition.
