Gouxi village in Quzhou recently welcomed a special visitor, Tide News reported on Aug 2. The guest toured the village, jotting notes and conversing with villagers.
The visitor was Wu Xibiao, director of the Southern Confucianism Research Center at Quzhou University.
Gouxi village is the largest settlement of Confucius descendants in western Zhejiang. It still retains complete genealogies, family teachings, and ancestral homes from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
"We should introduce sports projects to transform the ancient horse racecourse into a comprehensive cultural and recreational site," said Wu after his field research. He brainstormed with village representatives on potential initiatives.
The strategy involves two main approaches, according to Wu. First, bringing in talent and experts to contribute to the preservation and development of Southern Confucianism. Second, promoting Gouxi village's cultural brand through media to enhance its visibility and influence.
Wu expressed his commitment to working with local leaders over the next two years.
