Quzhou in Zhejiang province has in recent years been exploring new strategies to elevate its tea industry, resulting in the expansion of its tea plantation to 214,500 mu (14,300 hectares) in 2023.

The total output value of the city's tea industry reached 4.08 billion yuan ($563.65 million) last year, a substantial year-on-year increase of 23.59 percent.

These achievements can be largely attributed to the implementation of several measures by local authorities, including the allocation of over 10 million yuan last year to improve tea quality, issuing of supportive policies, and incentivizing of leading enterprises to adopt advanced technologies and equipment.

Furthermore, the city has established experimental tea plantation bases to promote green pest control technologies, ecological tea garden construction and management techniques, and supporting technologies for high-quality green tea production. An extra 4,550 mu of mechanically-harvested tea gardens have been incorporated.

In addition to these advancements, authorities have also made significant efforts to expand the tea machinery industry, develop deep-processed and high-value-added tea products, and strengthen the processing chain.

Moreover, there is a concerted effort to further integrate tea and tourism. This includes the introduction of innovative forms of tea and tourism, as well as the launch of tourism and research activities such as tea picking, tea-making experiences, tea culture exploration, and parent-child education.
