Quzhou's agricultural sector sees steady growth in 2023
Quzhou in Zhejiang province made remarkable achievements in its agricultural industry in 2023, with the combined output value of the city's agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery sectors reaching 15.25 billion yuan ($2.14 billion), a year-on-year increase of 5.2 percent, according to authorities.
This can be largely attributed to the effective implementation of a series of initiatives by local authorities, including the introduction of supportive policies for grain and oil production, ensuring stable production of grains and rapeseed.
The total sown area for grains in the city throughout the year expanded to 1.35 million mu (90,000 hectares), reflecting a 2.5 percent increase year-on-year, with a yield of 566,000 metric tons, representing a 1.8 percent increase year-on-year.
Furthermore, the total vegetable planting area in Quzhou reached 604,200 mu, indicating a 1.4 percent increase year-on-year, yielding 1,131,400 tons, a 2.4 percent increase year-on-year. The increased production of edible fungi stood out last year, with a remarkable yield of 41,600 tons, an 18.1 percent increase year-on-year.
In the livestock and poultry sector, Quzhou experienced positive growth, with an upward trend in the number of animals sent to market. The annual poultry sent to market reached 49.17 million, marking an 11.7 percent increase year-on-year, while the number of pigs sent to market totaled 1.43 million, reflecting a 15.5 percent increase year-on-year.
Additionally, cattle sent to market numbered 17,200, representing a 5.6 percent increase year-on-year, and sheep sent to market amounted to 58,500, a substantial 43.7 percent increase year-on-year.
The annual output of aquatic products also showed promising growth, reaching 81,300 tons, a 5.4 percent increase year-on-year.
