Changshan's pomelo industry receives boost
Bolstering an existing annual output value of 4.5 billion yuan ($626.50 million), a new pomelo juice bottling production line in Changshan county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, was completed and put into production on Jan 18.
Funded by Zhejiang Hengshoutang Pomelo Fruit Co, the new facility utilizes intelligent and digitalized methods, enabling automatic pulping, filling, and automatic liquid level detection. This ensures not only stable product quality but also a comprehensive increase in production capacity, as noted by Song Wei, the president of the company.
The groundbreaking ceremony of the pomelo industrial park, which will be operated by Hengshoutang and the local authorities, was also held on the same day.
The industrial park is planned to cover an area of 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) and will be implemented in two phases. The first phase will focus on constructing the headquarters building and temperature and humidity-controlled smart glass greenhouses, while also expanding the pomelo base by 500 mu and establishing a new 300-mu pomelo base.
Seeking to integrate leisure and intelligence, the second phase will primarily involve the construction of a research and development pilot workshop, a national base monitoring and command center, an antique train restaurant, and a reception center. It will serve as a model for the deep integration of agriculture, culture, and tourism in the county.
The total output value of the pomelo industrial chain in the county exceeded 4.5 billion yuan in 2023, with the national geographical indication brand value reaching 10.40 billion yuan, leading to a 1.2 billion yuan increase in the income of farmers throughout the county.
Pomelo successfully made it into the national "Local Specialty" promotion catalog and was recognized as a top-quality product in China's favorable climate. Additionally, fresh pomelos were included in the designated product supply list for the Hangzhou Asian Games.
