Qujiang drives high-quality development of camellia oil industry
Qujiang district in Quzhou, Zhejiang province has in recent years undertaken a series of initiatives to bolster its camellia oil industry.
These efforts include proactive measures such as the upgrading of old camellia oleifera trees, the replacement of low-yield oil tea trees, and the planting of new oil tea trees, all aimed at establishing a high-standard oil tea plantation.
The district has successfully improved and nurtured 5,616 mu (374.4 hectares) of oil tea plantations.
To further propel the industry, Qujiang has rolled out stimuli to encourage industry-leading enterprises to adopt cutting-edge production lines capable of producing 5,000 metric tons of camellia oil per year.
Authorities have also been exploring various strategies such as holding shares, asset custody, and plantation leasing to engage locals in the industry and increase their incomes.
The district's camellia seed output amounted to 6,780 tons in 2023, marking a year-on-year increase of 72.9 percent. The output value of the complete camellia oil industrial chain is estimated to have exceeded 200 million yuan ($27.95 million).
