Modern technologies are giving people easier access to high-level medical services in Quzhou, Zhejiang province.

Jiang Wenhong, a specialist in respiratory and critical care medicine, conducted a collaborative consultation through a tablet and a pair of augmented reality glasses in the outpatient building of Jiangshan People's Hospital on Nov 23.

Jiang was working with Ge Huiqing, director of the Respiratory Therapy Department at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital affiliated with the Medical School of Zhejiang University, located in Hangzhou.

Utilizing the "5G+AR" glasses, experts in Hangzhou could gain a real-time, "first-person perspective" view of the patient's condition, allowing for a clear examination of CT images and laboratory reports. Patients, in turn, could engage in real-time communication with the experts using mobile terminals.

In instances where elderly patients faced challenges communicating smoothly in Mandarin with the experts, on-site doctors at Jiangshan People's Hospital could act as translators, facilitating a better understanding of the patient's condition by experts from the provincial capital.

It is worth noting that even if the experts are not physically present in their offices, they can assist in diagnosis and treatment remotely through mobile devices such as phones and tablets.

The "5G+AR" remote consultation system employs a communication system based on 5G technology and augmented reality, enhancing the audio-visual interaction during consultations.
