David Ferguson, a British expat who has been living in China for more than 10 years, visited Quzhou on Nov 12 and 13 and was impressed by the city's development over the past 20 years.

Ferguson, the winner of the Chinese Government Friendship Award and the honorary English editor-in-chief of the Foreign Languages Press, came to Quzhou to learn about the development stories of cities in Zhejiang province for his book, which will tell readers about China's development path.

He visited Kecheng district and Longyou county, two places that showcase the cultural, ecological and historical features of Quzhou.

He was amazed by Southern Confucianism and the politeness of people in Kecheng, and talked with the 76th generation eldest grandson of Confucius on the value of Confucianism.

He also visited Yudong village in Gouxi township and showed a strong interest in the colorful and simple farmer paintings.

In Longyou, he strolled around the countryside and learned about the villages’ journeys from poverty to prosperity in conversations with locals.

He also praised the local mushroom company for integrating the concept of industrialization into agriculture and utilizing modern technologies in the growing process.

Ferguson said that he hopes to teach people about China's development path and see a beautiful China that is moving towards common prosperity.
