As the 19th Asian Games approach in Hangzhou, a special team of blood donors from Quzhou has offered their support by donating their rare blood type, known as "panda blood".

"Panda blood" is the nickname for Rh-negative blood, which only accounts for three to four thousandths of the population in China. People with this blood type often face difficulty finding compatible blood transfusions, so they are encouraged to donate blood regularly.

On Aug 23, Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province issued a recruitment order to form an emergency team of Rh-negative blood donors who would be ready to provide blood for the medical security of the Asian Games. Nearly 70 people signed up.

One of the donors is Zhang He, deputy head nurse of the geriatric department of Quzhou Third People's Hospital. She donated 200 milliliters of "panda blood" at the blood station. "As a medical practitioner, I know how important blood security is, so I am honored to be a 'panda hero' and support the Asian Games," she said.

On Aug 29, 3,500 milliliters of "panda blood" from Quzhou was approved and sent to Hangzhou. The Quzhou Center Blood Station also appealed to more rare blood type donors to join the team and support the Asian Games.
