A number of paper companies in the Longyou Economic Development Zone in Quzhou, Zhejiang province have achieved the full reuse of wastewater by sharing it among different enterprises and recycling it within their own production processes. This has allowed them to save water and reduce pollution, as well as increase their income.

The Longyou Economic Development Zone is currently home to more than 40 paper enterprises, which are big water consumers and big wastewater dischargers. Reusing wastewater saves resources and reduces pollution in water bodies.

Zhejiang Jinchang Special Paper Co Ltd sells its wastewater to Zhejiang Yishu Paper Industry Group Co Ltd at 0.5 yuan (6.9 cents) per ton, earning 150,000 yuan per year, while Yishu Paper Industry saves more than 500,000 yuan in water bills per year by using wastewater instead of tap water.

Jinchang Special Paper reuses its production water repeatedly for the same batch of products. After several cycles, the wastewater is treated and transported to the Yishu Paper Industry, which produces packaging paper with lower water quality requirements.

The Yishu Paper Industry also reuses its production water several times. The final tail water is discharged into the industrial park's sewage treatment plant, which supplies it to paper enterprises again after meeting standards.

The Longyou Economic Development Zone has invested more than 47 million yuan in the building of new pump stations and reuse of pipelines for further wastewater recycling in the future.
