On National Fitness Day on Aug 8, the opening ceremony for the Hushan Sports Park, also called the Li Ning Sports Park, was held in Jiangshan, a county-level city of Quzhou.

Eleven Olympic champions and world champions, including Li Ning, Lou Yun, Zheng Haixia, Ding Ning, Li Xiaoshuang, and Bao Chunlai, witnessed the opening ceremony. Nearly 1,000 people attended the event.

Construction on the Hushan Sports Park started in September 2019. It received an investment of 1.5 billion yuan ($208.13 million) and covers an area of nearly 270,000 square meters. It is a comprehensive sports park and is expected to become a new landmark of Jiangshan.

The park consists of three main parts: a gymnasium, a national fitness center, and a supporting sports facility building.

The gymnasium will focus on weightlifting events and will serve as the national weightlifting training base.

In mid-to-late September, athletes participating in the weightlifting competition of the Hangzhou Asian Games will also carry out a 10-day pre-match adaptive training at the national weightlifting training base at the park.

The supporting sports facility building is designed as an 11-story hotel-style building that can meet the accommodation and dining needs of athletes, referees, and staff during events.

The national fitness center has indoor sports venues for most indoor sporting events such as weightlifting, swimming, badminton and rock climbing, meeting the daily fitness needs of locals.

In recent years, Quzhou has attached great importance to the sports industry and built a number of sports venues, sports parks, and sports communities. On average, more than 300 comprehensive national fitness events are held every year.
