Dr Huang Hefeng was awarded the 2023 Fuller W. Bazer SSR International Scientist Award at the 56th annual meeting of the Society for the Study of Reproduction (SSR) held on July 11th in Ottawa.

The award was established in 2017 by Professor Fuller W. Bazer of the United States to recognize outstanding achievements in academic research and graduate education by reproductive scientists working outside North America.

Dr Huang is the first Chinese scientist to receive the award and has been recognized for her significant contributions to reproductive medicine and biological research.

Dr Huang has been working in obstetrics and gynecology for more than 30 years and is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, an honorary academician of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the UK, and the dean of the Institute of Reproduction and Development at Fudan University.

She has made significant contributions to reproductive medicine research by conducting a series of mechanism studies on the developmental origins of major chronic diseases while focusing on the health of test-tube babies in both the short and long term.

She has also led her team in conducting pioneering research on the occurrence and transgenerational mechanisms of diabetes, which has been published in high-impact journals such as Nature.

In addition to her academic contributions, Dr Huang has made outstanding contributions to talent training, textbooks and monograph compilation, especially in graduate education.

Raised in Quzhou, Dr Huang has long been committed to the development of healthcare services in her hometown. She actively participates in charitable medical activities and established her only academician expert workstation in Quzhou, providing systematic and sustainable technical support to the medical industry.
