Tongcun town in Kaihua county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has seen a booming melamine industry in recent years.

In 2022, the total output value of the town's melamine industry reached 320 million yuan ($45.2 million), and the output value of the town's melamine industrial park exceeded 2 million yuan per mu.

Zhejiang Wanchen Packaging Technology Co Ltd moved from Shanghai to the Tongcun melamine industrial park at the end of 2019 and began operating in April of the following year. The company produces cosmetic bottle caps and hoses for brands such as Unilever, Johnson & Johnson, L'Oreal and Estee Lauder.

It took little more than seven months for its output value to exceed 20 million yuan and for it to become an above-designated-size industrial enterprise.

"In the industrial park, the company's raw material suppliers are nearby, and rent is relatively low. The company's overall operating costs have decreased by 30 percent," said Chu Junhua, the company's factory manager.

Thanks to the town's thriving melamine industry, more than 1,200 local workers are employed in the town's melamine industrial park. And 13 melamine product processing bases in the town have employed nearly 500 people.

Data shows that by the end of 2022, nine administrative villages in Tongcun town had a collective operating income of 3.56 million yuan, an increase of 196 percent compared with 2019.
