Two cyclists in their 60s from Changshan county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province, rode their bikes to Beijing to welcome the upcoming 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. They planned to ride more than 4,000 kilometers in 22 days.
Mao Changsheng and Xu Ping started their journeys from Changshan county and Hangzhou, respectively, met in Nanjing, and then set off on their journey to Beijing.
Mao said that they planned to ride northward from Jiangsu, Anhui and Shandong provinces until they reached Beijing. On their way back, they planned to ride through Hebei, Henan, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces.
Mao is 62 years old and has been a member of the Changshan Bicycle Association for eight years and has been cycling for 10 years.
In order to carry out his long-distance cycling plan, he prepared thoroughly in advance. In addition to preparing cycling equipment, he insisted on training every day to improve his physical strength and endurance.
Mao also decorated his bicycle with two signs with the words "Asian Games" on them. He said that he wanted to use this low-carbon means of travel to promote the Asian Games along the way and welcome the arrival of the Games.
