Asian Games Economy | Changshan grapefruit to be featured at Asian Games
Zhejiang AiJia Fruit and Vegetable Development Co Ltd, based in Changshan county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, recently became the supplier of fresh fruit for the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 and 4th Asian Para Games Hangzhou 2022 and is mainly responsible for supplying Changshan grapefruit to the Games.
The organizing committee has very strict requirements on products. The grapefruit produced at the company's base is organically cultivated, ecofriendly, and safe, meeting the demands of athletes, said Zhang Gang, vice-president of the company.
Grapefruit is one of Changshan's distinct agricultural products and has a history of more than 600 years. It has high nutritional value and is rich in a variety of vitamins and 16 amino acids, as well as phosphorus, potassium, iron, calcium and other microelements.
Changshan grows grapefruit over a total area of 105,000 mu (7,000 hectares), and output has reached about 120,000 metric tons.
Data show that the price of Changshan grapefruit has jumped to 10 yuan ($1.45) per fruit and that it is being exported to Southeast Asia. The grapefruit industry has brought in 1 billion yuan in income for 100,000 employees.
