Common prosperity workshop helps residents in Quzhou
Mencun village in Kaihua county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, has been able to create jobs by building a common prosperity workshop.
Mencun village is a typical mountain village. It has a population of about 1,200 people, one-third of whom stay at home year-round – mostly elderly and children.
The village cooperated with Kaihua Hongfa Toy Factory last year and built a "common prosperity workshop". Elderly people can earn an additional 1,800 yuan ($261) per month on average by working there.
The workshop also features shared canteens, nursing homes and cultural halls for residents.
Kaihua county currently has a permanent population of nearly 260,000, with more than 100,000 people working outside the county year- round.
The county's successful creation of the common prosperity workshop is in line with the Zhejiang government's goal of creating a high-quality employment and entrepreneurship system where everyone has something to do and every family has an income.
By 2022, the GDP of Kaihua was 7.99 times that of 2003, the general public budget revenue was 10.84 times that of 2003, and the gap between the disposable incomes of urban and rural residents had dropped from 2.2 to 1.85.
