Red sorghum industry brings wealth to Quzhou villages

Daxibian township, Kaihua county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, started developing a red sorghum industry in 2015, and it has since born much fruit.

The township's red sorghum planting area expanded from 240 mu (16 hectares) in 2015 to 5,300 mu in 2022.

The annual output value of its red sorghum industry exceeded 35 million yuan ($5.07 million), bringing the average annual income of more than 5,800 villagers in the township to more than 5,500 yuan. The collective operating income of the township's 12 villages has exceeded 5.7 million yuan.

In addition, a red sorghum industry innovation service center is now being renovated in the township.

With a total of 53 million yuan in investment and covering an area of 20 mu, the center will be able to produce more than 500 metric tons of red sorghum wine every year, generating more than 60 million yuan in output.

The center is also expected to increase the collective operating income of 12 villages in the township by more than 4 million yuan annually, provide more than 60 jobs, and generate about 3 million yuan in wage income.
