Quzhou handles 8.46m parcels during Double 11 shopping festival

Quzhou's express deliveries exceeded 8.46 million items from Nov 1 to 16, the Double 11 (Nov 11) shopping festival period, acheiving average daily volume of 529,000 items, up 2.4 percent year-on-year, according to statistics from the State Post Bureau.

On Nov 11, the city's single business express delivery volume exceeded one million items for the first time ever.

According to the Quzhou commerce bureau, the city's online retail sales totaled 2.08 billion yuan ($291.26 million) during the Double 11 online shopping festival, an increase of 24.8 percent year-on-year, the highest growth rate in Zhejiang province.

Online retail sales in rural areas of the city exceeded 1.68 billion yuan, an uptick of 4.8 percent year-on-year.

In addition, during this year's shopping festival the city sold 1.65 million items worth 179 million yuan via livestreams.

The number of customer service, sorting, and distribution workers was expanded from an original 670 to about 800 to maintain maximum efficiency in distribution, said Ye Xingwei, head of SF Express in Quzhou.
