Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province launched a carbon footprint application for industrial products on Oct 29, according to local media reports.

The application in the city's carbon account system includes four sub-scenarios: carbon footprint tracing, low-carbon supply chain, low-carbon creation, and carbon reduction services.

After industrial enterprises input or automatically read the basic data in the intelligent energy management system, the system can calculate the carbon footprint of the unit product.

The application is available to enterprises free of charge and can realize multi-user online calculations simultaneously.

The city has provided 150 enterprises with online carbon footprint calculation tools, including 20 chemical enterprises and eight building materials enterprises. The first 90 enterprises have completed modeling and calculating, which will help them reduce the third-party certification costs of carbon footprint calculations by 50 percent.

In recent years, the widespread use of the carbon account system has promoted carbon reduction. For example, through carbon management, the power consumption of grinding links at the production workshop of Quzhou Changshan Zhefeng New Materials Co Ltd has been reduced by 8 percent this year, and the production line efficiency of drying links has increased by 20 percent.
