Villages seek fortune through 'future village' construction
The collective incomes of Fangcun village and Yuanquxincun village in Fangcun town, Changshan county, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, both exceeded 500,000 yuan ($75,095.86) in 2021, while the per capita disposable income of the villagers was 28,000 yuan, both higher than the county's average.
The prosperity of the villages can be attributed to the "future village" initiative, a major provincial rural vitalization program.
To increase farmer incomes, the town transferred 300 mu (20 hectares) of idle land last year, and planted 100 mu of rape flowers. It attracted 16,000 tourists and helped farmers increase their income by a total of more than 300,000 yuan when the colorful rape flowers bloomed in March.
After the rape harvest, the town used the land to develop a new farming model in which fish is farmed in the rice field.
In addition, in 2021, villagers of Fangcun town earned over 1 million yuan collectively from the oil-tea industry.
The planting area of oil-tea trees in the town has now reached 56,000 mu. Last year, the traditional press oil workshop produced 55,000 kilograms of camellia oil, realizing an output value of more than 6.9 million yuan.
