Fresh steps to upgrade traditional manufacturing industry in Quzhou

Quzhou city, located in East China's Zhejiang province, is striving to upgrade its 2.0 version traditional manufacturing industry through integration and digital transformation, according to local media reports on Aug 10.

Traditional manufacturing sector helps Quzhou achieve growth

Quzhou has rolled out a series of policies and regulations relating to six industrial upgrading projects for special purpose paper, new materials, new energy resources, integrated circuits, intelligent equipment and life and health. These are expected to boost the upgrading of industry supply chains and build an advanced manufacturing cluster in the city.  

By 2025, the total annual output value of the six industries is expected to account for more than 70 percent of total industrial output value in Quzhou.  

Bearing manufacturing in Changshan

The Zhejiang Wanyang Crowd Innovation Town, started in 2019 – in Changshan county, administered by Quzhou city – with an investment of 5 billion yuan ($723.22 million). The innovation town covers an area of 62 hectares and is expected to introduce 200-300 small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises.

JM Bearings Co Ltd in Changshan, for one, is working against the clock to build the second phase of a digital project.

The company plans to invest more than 20 million yuan in 2021 to upgrade the local traditional manufacturing industry and 15 intelligent production lines will be installed by the end of this year, each of which will increase the value of its monthly output by 60,000-80,000 yuan.

Zheng Feng, technical director of the company, said that in the wake of the digital transformations of the past few years, the output value of JM Bearings had increased year by year. From January to June in 2021, the output value reportedly reached 70 million yuan, an increase of 59.6 percent year-on-year.  

Special purpose paper manufacturing in Longyou

To date, an all-round special purpose paper industry supply chain has been formed – in Longyou county, administered by Quzhou – featuring more than 100 varieties of special purpose paper. This has involved industries such as agriculture, decorations, food packaging and medical treatment – covering raw materials, equipment, chemicals, logistics, terminal sales, e-commerce and other complete upstream and downstream industry supply chains.
