Quzhou puts best foot forward with its villages
In 2017, China proposed a strategy of rural revitalization that was set to transform the nation. The aim was to establish rural areas with thriving businesses, an eco-friendly environment, social etiquette and civility, effective governance and a prosperous rural population – making sure that positive results from poverty elimination programs were consolidated and became an integral part of the overall process.
Quzhou city reportedly took the lead in East China's Zhejiang province to launch a village vision pilot scheme and it has followed the precept of people-centered rural development since August 2019.
Valuing people
In a bid to build people-oriented rural surroundings, Quzhou has integrated neighborhoods, industries, education, health, culture, transportation and governance, according to the demands of residents. Service and neighborhood centers – those seemingly "dispensable" public service centers in the construction of beautiful villages in the city – have now become an indispensable element of Quzhou's villages.
Branding strategy
Villages in Quzhou are no longer traditional and simple residential centers for villagers, but are now an organic and integrated market-oriented product to meet personalized and diverse consumer demand.
Yudong village – administered by Quzhou – has been dubbed as one of the "Top Ten Farmer Painting Villages in China" and a "Home of Chinese Folk Culture and Art".
In 2018, Yudong village was successfully established as a national 3A-level tourist attraction.
In addition, Yudong established the Quzhou Yudong Farmer Painting Development Co Ltd. It was jointly founded by the village collective, farmer painters and a professional management team, to promote the revitalization and development of Yudong on the road to its goal of "culture + tourism".
Digital transformation
Agriculture and animal husbandry have been developed and modernized; industries have grown rapidly with the integrative application of information, digital and smart technologies; the service sector has seen its status and role expand as a driver of economic growth. All ethnic groups enjoy equal rights to participation and development, moving steadily towards the goal of common prosperity.
