Wuxi River diversion makes Zhejiang beautiful projects list
The Wuxi River diversion project – located in the region administered by Quzhou city, in East China's Zhejiang province – made it onto the list of the 2021 Top 10 most beautiful water conservation projects in the region, released on Aug 3.
Elsewhere, the Tongshanyuan reservoir received a nomination to be included on the list, which was announced by the Water Resources Department of Zhejiang Province.

The Wuxi River diversion project started construction on Aug 8, 1989. It is a large-scale comprehensive water conservation project that integrates agriculture, industry, environment, power generation, tourism and people's domestic water supplies.
Two large reservoirs, located at Hunan town and at Huangtankou on the Wuxi River, are utilized to store 1.7 billion cubic meters of tail water for power generation.

The main canal spans five counties, county-level cities and city districts – running from the prefecture-level city of Quzhou to Jinhua, also a prefecture-level city in Zhejiang.
With a length of 79.5 kilometers and a design diversion flow of 38 cu m per second, it can irrigate 718,600 mu (47,907 hectares) of farmland.
Besides, with a total water supply of 16.7 billion cu m, the main canal meets the industrial water needs of one State-level economic development zone and four provincial-level economic development zones along it, as well as the various water demands of local 650,000 residents.

Meanwhile, Tongshanyuan reservoir, with the total storage capacity of 171 million cu m, can provide water for 300,000 mu of grain fields, 25 mu of economic forests – woods whose main purpose is to produce wood or other forest products for direct economic benefit – and domestic water for surrounding residents.
