Jiang Jianping from Changshan county in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province has won many awards for unlocking the medicinal value of grapefruits, one of his home county's specialties.

After years of research on grapefruits, he found that in addition to protecting the liver, as well as reducing lipid and anti-inflammatory functions, Changshan-grown grapefruits are also beneficial to the lung and are resistant to oxidation.

In just a few years, Jiang has presided over more than 10 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Natural Science Foundation of Zhejiang Province, as well as developed new products, including health-protective tablets, grapefruit essential oil masks, and grapefruit coffee.

He has also applied for three national invention patents and five patents for utility models, as well as constructed the first grapefruit deep-processing production line in the country, with an annual production amount of 20,000 metric tons.
