The charity donation activity, "red umbrellas for Virtuous Quzhou", was launched at Shuitingmen Gate in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on July 11.
Zhejiang Juxiang Food Co Ltd, as the initiator of the donation activity, became the first donor when it gave 3,000 red-color umbrellas to the campaign.
The 3,000 umbrellas will be placed in buses, taxis and private cars in urban areas as well as in the city’s railway stations, airports and hospitals. Anyone in need of an umbrella can take one and return it to a relevant place or to any bus or taxi.
Private car owners can keep an umbrella with them and pass it on to anyone who needs it.
The charity activity originated June 27 when Li Xiangru, a spokesperson for Virtuous Quzhou, encountered a burst heavy rain on her way home, when she saw an old man being drenched as pushed his car through an intersection. Li Xiangru hurriedly took an umbrella from her car and gave it to the old man.
"He needed it, and I shared it," Li said at the launch ceremony of the charity activity.
