Sanqu Stone Forest

Sanqu Stone Forest, located in Changshan, a county in Quzhou, is the main scenic area of the Changshan National Geopark and a provincial-level scenic spot and beautifully integrates karst landforms with bioherms.

Its limestone karst landforms are different from the adult stone forests in Yunnan province, a the landforms at Sanqu Stone Forest are in a juvenile stage, composed of clusters of stone peaks. Its micro landforms consists of clints and karrens.

During geological processes, the karst landforms in Sanqu Stone Forest are transformed into various shapes that resemble castles, animals, corridors, and bridges.

The scenic spot has been hailed by geologists in China and abroad for its rare landforms, the world's largest natural bonsai, and the world's largest area of animal-shaped stones, as well as for the Jade Stone Forest located in China's Jiangnan area (regions south of the Yangtze River).

Sanqu Stone Forest is also a huge bioherm that was full of prehistoric life in the late Ordovician period (about 440 million years ago), making it important to the study of the geological history of the Paleozoic Era in South China.

In 2013, Sanqu Stone Forest was rated a 4A scenic spot by the China Scenic Attraction Quality-Rating Committee, with 5A being the highest level.
