Photo of Quzhou nurse resting against doorway goes viral
A picture depicting a young nurse, 25, resting against a doorway recently went viral online, Quzhou Daily reported on March 11.
The nurse is Zhang Qi, who works at Changshan County People's Hospital in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, the designated hospital for treating novel coronavirus pneumonia.
The photo in question was taken by head nurse Mao Shuixian.
"I took the photo as I was preparing for my next shift," said Mao. "I didn't want to wake her up, but I thought the photo might make for a nice souvenir."
Zhang has worked as a nurse for five years. When the epidemic broke out in Changshan, she gave up her holiday and signed up for frontline work on Jan 25.
After learning about the photo's popularity online, Zhang said that her colleagues are working far harder than her.
To prevent infection, medical workers are required to wear heavy protective suits during their multiple daily shifts of at least four hours, with a few minutes' rest in between.
Workers avoid all food and drink during the work day, as it is too difficult to remove the layers of protective gear. However, according to Zhang, they are too busy treating patients to even notice.
As of March 10, China had reported 80,778 confirmed cases, 61,475 of which had recovered and been discharged from designated hospitals, 3,158 deaths and 258 suspected cases.
