Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province scored 92.64 points out of 100 points in a survey on how satisfied local residents are with river management in 2019, putting it at first place in the province in this regard for the second year in a row, according to the Quzhou municipal river management office.

The score is 3.56 points higher than in 2018 and 4.12 points higher than the provincial average.

In 2019, the quality of rivers under the management of the State, provincial, and municipal governments, as well as the quality of drinking water in the city, met standards, and the quality of transregional water has met drinking water standards for many years.

In the same year, Quzhou invested 2.12 billion yuan ($301.63 million) in managing its rivers. As a result, Xin'an Lake, Dajuyuan River, and seven other rivers in the city were recognized as "Beautiful Rivers" at the provincial and municipal levels, and greenways in Longyou and Changshan counties were named among the "Most Beautiful Greenways" in Zhejiang.

Moreover, Quzhou formed 230 river management volunteer teams with more than 24,000 members last year. They are called "blue waistcoats" due to the attire they wear while volunteering.

More than 99.97 percent of rivers in Quzhou were inspected by their chiefs last year, a higher percentage than any other city in Zhejiang.

The satisfaction survey was introduced in 2014 with the aim of assessing the success of river management in Zhejiang cities according to the following indicators: local resident participation, support, sense of gain, confidence, and knowledge about river chief systems.
