K.S. Novoselov, a Nobel Prize laureate in physics from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, visited Quzhou in East China's Zhejiang province on Aug 28, according to local media reports.

Novoselov was awarded the Nobel Prize in 2010 for his discovery of grapheme, making him the youngest Nobel Prize winner in the last 50 years. He is the first Nobel Prize winner to visit Quzhou.

Xu Wenguang, Party secretary of Quzhou, said at a meeting with Novoselov that Quzhou is dedicated to developing its digital economy and new material industries and has attracted a raft of experts and companies involved in the two fields.

Xu expects to cooperate with Novoselov in a bid to trigger a technological revolution in the city's new material industries.

Novoselov was impressed by Quzhou's pleasant natural environment, rich culture and solid industrial foundation, and said that he is willing to boost further development of the new material industries in Quzhou.

The Nobel Prize winner gave a lecture to local officials and directors of new materials and other related companies during his stay in the city on the discovery process, characteristics, application and the market prospects of grapheme.

Grapheme is the thinnest material in the world as of now. With the best conductivity and stretchability, it enjoys extensive market prospects, according to Novoselov.

Novoselov also visited the Southeast Digital Economy Development Research Institute and China Ornamental Stone Exposition Garden in Quzhou.
