Quzhou village seeks economic upgrade through e-commerce
Once it would have been strange, but now it's a common sight: Two workers are busy packing parcels at an e-commerce industry incubation park in the village of Lubian in Kecheng district, Quzhou, which is piled up with express boxes.
The 300-square meter Dream Making Space was reconstructed from a hog house, according to Lu Xiaofang, Party secretary of Lubian village.
Lu said that they stopped raising pigs and introduced e-commerce industry to help villagers generate income while restoring the clear water taken away by pig keeping.
With the help of local authorities, Lu established a service center for e-business in 2014, offering villagers free training, entrepreneurial guidance and technological support.
A year later Ali Research Institute, a think tank platform of e-commerce giant Alibaba Group, rated Lubian as a Taobao village. That's because the number of its active online stores accounted for more than 10 percent of local households and their total annual turnover exceeded 10 million yuan ($1.45 million).
The number of high-quality Taobao stores in Lubian kept going up over the past three years. In 2018, the village's total gross turnover of its online stores exceeded 30 million yuan.
"I'm not a native Lubian villager and was attracted by its preferential policies," said Zheng Sheng, director of Quzhou Tongdao E-commerce Co, adding that the village not only provided them with free office space for three years, but also offered office supplies for free.
In addition to the e-commerce industry, based on the beautiful natural landscape, Lubian plans to develop its tourism industry by building snack streets and homestays.
