A sacrificial ceremony to celebrate the birthday of all flowers was held in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province on March 24, local media reported.
Twelve girls in ancient Chinese clothing representing 12 different gods of flowers slowly walked into the hall. After bowing to the audience, these girls worshipped the gods they represented.
"It's just another weekend, but because we take this seriously, there is a sense of ceremony here," said Chen Ying, a big fan of ancient Chinese clothing.
Chen said that ancient Chinese girls used to place high value on the festival. On the day, they would carefully select their own clothes, wear their hair up, pencil the eyebrows, and paint rouge on their cheeks and lips.
Huachao Festival, or the birthday of all flowers, usually falls on the 12th Feb of lunar calendar.
Chinese people have celebrated the festival since the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC), during which they would visit gardens, plant flowers, arrange flowers in vase, put flowers in hair, and chase butterflies.
