Quzhou has set an aim of becoming the most courteous city in China, said Xu Wenguang, Party chief of Quzhou, Zhejiang province, and NPC deputy.

Xu made the remark in an interview on March 11 in Beijing during the ongoing two sessions, a series of annual meetings of advisory and legislative delegates.

According to Xu, for a 6,000-year-old Quzhou, nothing can better represent the city than courtesy.

After one year of Xu's performance as Party chief of Quzhou, the local government summarized the "Home of Southern Confucianism and a Model City of Courtesy" as their urban brand last year.

In order to popularize the new city brand, Quzhou solicited ideas for a city logo, mascot and cartoon image to be projected on the global stage, organized news conferences in Beijing, Shanghai, Wuhan, Shenzhen and Chengdu and launched city videos on the channels of state television CCTV.

The city brand helps Quzhou find the energy to seek further development, said Xu.

He noted that as the home of Southern Confucianism, Quzhou is renovating its ancient downtown and revitalizing the idea to develop traditional culture in an innovative way.

Besides showing courtesy to the past, Quzhou is also cooperating with e-commerce giant Alibaba Group to grasp the great opportunities of the internet era to advance its digital economy and other emerging industries.

In December 2018, the city won the title of International Garden City over more than 20 cities from 20 countries at the global finals of the 18th International Garden City Competition in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.
