Qingyang Culture Village
Qingyang Culture Village of Jiangshan city in Quzhou, East China’s Zhejiang province is known for its deep association with the surname Mao. More than 300 households living there bear the surname. Their ancestors used to live in areas toward Jiangnan (or the south of the Yangtze River) before moving to Qingyang. Mao family in Qingyang has a history of 1,500 years.
The village has been confirmed to be the birthplace of Mao Family in Jiangnan and the ancestral home of Mao Zedong and the Mao Family in the village is the most influential and largest one among all Mao Families in Jiangnan, as eight shangshu (minister in ancient China) and more than 80 jinshi(successful candidate in the highest imperial examinations) were born there. It has also developed the branches of Mao Family in Jishui, Jiangxi, Shaoshan, Hunan and Fenghua in Zhejiang and formed a historical and cultural heritage featuring long history, large amount of talents, farming-reading tradition and nobility.
