Jiangshan is a county-level city that borders Zhejiang, Fujian, and Jiangxi provinces. It has been a county since the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

Jiangshan covers an area of 2,019 sq km and governs 16 towns, three subdistricts, 292 villages and 15 communities with a total population of 608,000.

It boasts a strong industrial foundation, thriving tourism industry, pleasant living environment, and rich culture.

Jiangshan has long served as an industrial center of Zhejiang and has constructed an industrial platform consisting of the Jiangshan Economic Development Zone and the towns of Hecun, Sidu, and Xiakou. The platform focuses on traditional industries, including the door industry, equipment manufacturing, healthcare, firefighting, and emerging industries such as new energy and new materials.

Jiangshan is also known throughout China as an attractive tourist destination. It is home to Jianglang Mountain, the only UNESCO World Natural Heritage site in Jiangsu, Zhejiang or Shanghai. It also has one 5A-level attraction, four 4A-level attractions, and 12 3A-level attractions.

Jiangshan also houses one national forest park and two provincial-level natural reserves. More than 70 percent of the land in the city is covered in thick forest and 51 percent of land in urban area is covered with foliage.

The city has been honored as a "Global Green City", "National Garden City", "National Hygiene City", and "National Role Model in Afforestation".

Jiangshan is also a cultural city filled with Maoist culture in its ancient Qiangyang village as well as cultures of ancient paths, ancient towns, and traditional village songs that are renowned throughout China. More than two thirds of villages in Jiangshan compose their own songs.
