Kecheng district is located in the western part of Zhejiang province, in the upper reaches of the Qiantang River. The district serves as a political, economic and cultural center of Quzhou city.

Covering an area of 609 sq km, Kecheng governs 10 towns and nine subdistricts and has a total population of 528,800.

Kecheng has a long history, beautiful landscapes, a pleasant living environment, convenient transportation, and a prosperous economy.

Founded over 1,800 years ago in the Eastern Han Dynasty (AD 25-220), Kecheng has been approved as a State-level historic and cultural city by the State Council. In addition, the annual sacrificial offering ceremony for the God of Spring, held in the district's Jiuhua town, was listed among UNESCO's Masterpieces of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2016.

With clean water, fresh air, and scenic views, Kecheng has been designated as a National Garden City, National Forest City, and National Demonstration of Environment Protection. As a result, it enjoys a booming tourism industry, housing more than 40 boutique rural homestays.

Kecheng consistently promotes the renovation and improvement of its urban area. The shanty town in Doutan and Quhua is currently being renovated. The light shows on Xin'an Lake have been applauded by tourists and Shuitingmen and Lixian Bridge have become popular attractions on social media.

Numerous railways and highways run through the district. The Hangzhou-Quzhou high-speed railway was open to the public in 2022, which reduced the travel time between the two cities to only 40 minutes. The airport in the district operated flights to seven major domestic cities, including Beijing and Shenzhen.
