The Wushi County Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Hospital was inaugurated in Wushi, Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, on Dec 24, according to local media reports.

The hospital features Uighur medicine, which is part of TCM and values aromatic herbs, and integrates TCM with western treatments.

Over the past few years, the Xinjiang-aid command in Quzhou has worked on helping Xinjiang in medical treatment by dispatching medical professionals to Xinjiang and improving local health care infrastructure.

The Chinese city has lately sent a total of 18 medical professionals to Wushi, who have treated 7,477 patients, rescued 430 critically ill patients, taken part in 1,023 group consultations, trained 6,141 local medical employees, and performed 513 operations.

Quzhou has also launched six medical projects in Wushi with a total investment of 31.2 million yuan ($4.46 million) to improve its health care infrastructure.

In addition to medical assistance, Quzhou has launched 212 projects and invested 1.93 billion yuan ($280.1 million) in the county over the past nine years to help eradicate local poverty through industrial upgrading. Projects have included the SME Industry Park and fruit processing companies.
