Nobel Peace Prize winner Rajendra Shende visited Quzhou No 2 High School in East China's Zhejiang province on Nov 11, according to local media reports.
Shende is a core expert of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), director of the Terre Policy Center, an Indian think tank, and honorary president of the International Advisory Board of Operation Earth, the first international field research volunteer organization in China.
The Nobel laureate delivered a keynote speech about responses to climate change to students and teachers of the Quzhou school.
"It is each human being's responsibility to tackle climate change," said Shende, hoping that Quzhou No 2 High School students will pay more attention to such global issues as climate change.
Shende noted that they may start from little things, such as saving water, preserving forests, and taking public transport.
He said that he appreciated that the Quzhou high school has explored building a low carbon campus after catching sight of the public bikes, patches of trees, and classified garbage system in the school.
He said that Quzhou No 2 High School is qualified for the Climate Pioneer, an intercollegiate partnership program launched by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization and Operation Earth.
Shende welcomed it to apply for the program.
Pan Zhiqiang, principal of Quzhou No 2 High School, reached an intention for further cooperation with Shende on joining the Climate Pioneer.
