The 4th National Mind Games will begin on Nov 8 in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, according to a press conference held in the city on Oct 29.
Behavior art will be the highlight of the opening ceremony, at which the audience will be invited to participate, said Luo Kege, chief director of the opening and closing ceremonies.
Quzhou's unique characteristics will be another highlight of the opening ceremony.
Luo said that the ceremony will demonstrate the city's profound history and culture through Confucius, chess pieces, Happy Deer (Quzhou's mascot), and Grandpa Nankong (a cartoon image of Confucius).
He said he wants to use the event to build Quzhou into an attractive city for Weiqi (known as "Go" in English) players in China and a hotspot for mind games in general.
Luo also revealed that unlike the three previous events, the opening ceremony of this year's event will be held in a roofless stadium.
Theme songs for the opening and closing ceremonies were also released at the press conference. Both songs were sung by Xu Zhaoting, a Quzhou native.
The 4th National Mind Games are scheduled to run from Nov 8 to 18. Around 3,400 players from around China will compete in 57 competitions and five different games – Weiqi, Chinese chess, chess, bridge, five-in-a-row, and draughts.
Quzhou is one of the birthplaces of Weiqi culture in China. In recent years, the city has pursued creative development and built up a brand of its own through sports events, and body building has gained popularity in the city as well. This has helped Quzhou prepare for the upcoming mind games.
