The first Melodious Quzhou Grassland Concert in 2019 was held on March 23, local media reported.
The concert was exclusively symphonies, staged by the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra with 80 musicians, and lasted for 100 minutes.
The orchestra performed famous Chinese and foreign symphonies in various forms, including violin solo, suona solo, trumpet solo, and tuba solo.
"We always want the elegant symphony to go down the altar and become popular among common citizens and Quzhou offered us the great opportunity to play for their local residents," said Chen Yu, deputy director of the Zhejiang Symphony Orchestra.
Founded in 2009, the Zhejiang orchestra plays classical works of symphonies while learning from Chinese folk music and has given concerts in South Korea, Japan, France, Italy and eight other countries.
"I can hum many songs along the orchestra," noted 65-year-old Liao Ruzhou. "The music they performed satisfied the audience of all ages."
"Music is an important part of Quzhou's city brand -- A courteous Quzhou," said Liu Zhanghua, deputy director of the Quzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Television, one of the sponsors of the event. "We plan to construct the Melodious Quzhou into an influential concert around Zhejiang and China."
The Melodious Quzhou Grassland Concert was sponsored by the Publicity Department of CPC Quzhou Municipal Committee, the Quzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Television and management committee of the West Region of Quzhou.
It was the third performance since its launch in last October and there will be more such concerts in the near future, according to its sponsors.
