Quzhou hosts Chinese Go championship finals

The 8th Quzhou · Lanke Cup Chinese Go Championship finals kicked off on Jan 4 and run to Jan 9 in Quzhou city, in East China's Zhejiang province, according to the local media.

The event has attracted the participation of 32 top Go players in China – including Ke Jie, 22, one of the world's best Go players and Tan Xiao, the 35th Go world champion.

The finals include three rounds of competition -- the first round (8 players in 4 games), the second round (4 players in 2 games) and the third round to decide the titles of champion and runner-up.

Sponsored by the Chinese Go Association and being held under the auspices of the Quzhou municipal government, the tournament was co-organized by the Quzhou Lanke Chess Academy.

Go or Weiqi in Chinese, is an abstract strategy game where two players take turns placing black and white stones on a board.

Quzhou's Lanke Mountain – administered by Kecheng district -- is the legendary birthplace of Go and as a result many Go fans show a keen interest in the area.
