A promotion was held in Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, on May 19 to popularize the use of dedicated chopsticks and spoons by locals eating meals at home or in restaurants, local media reported.

Amid the novel cornoavirus, China is promoting the practice of every individual using two sets of chopsticks and spoons -- whether at home or in a restaurant -- with one to serve the food from, the other for their own personal consumption.

Representatives of the five "Most Beautiful Families" in Zhejiang were invited to share their stories about mobilizing people to use the special serving chopsticks and spoons.

Xu Jianying's family was a national Five-Virtues Family in 2018, who is dedicated to the rehabilitation of disabled people and they established a center of people with disabilities.

Xu said that using the serving chopsticks and spoons is a healthy way of dining and at her center for the disabled people, each tableware is labelled with user's name.

Another role model family, Wang Shuirong's family, has used serving chopsticks and spoons since January this year.

"At the very beginning, I would accidentally use the serving chopsticks and spoons as personal ones," noted Wang. "However, we have been used to the serving chopsticks and spoons since the end of March."

As the Party secretary of Huren village in Qujiang district, Wang also did his best to promote the use of serving chopsticks and spoons by local villagers.

Some of them did not understand the idea, believing it to be a waste of money and time, but Wang patiently explained to them the advantages, including preventing the spread of disease.

All the villagers in Huren now are strong supporters of the serving chopsticks and spoons.

Quzhou has promoted the serving chopsticks and spoons since 2018 and a recent poll showed that more than 77 percent of local residents said that they employ the practice at home for each meal.
