Chen Xiaoming, a villager in Kecheng district, Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, is well known locally for his handmade miniature farm tools, according to local media reports on Jan 13.

Nearly every household in nearby villages has at least one piece of furniture handmade by the 58-year-old carpenter.

Seven years ago, Chen came up with the idea of making a miniature windmill. Two days later it was finished, receiving rapturous praise across the board. It was then that Chen decided to move ahead with more miniature farm tools.

Over the years, Chen has made an array of miniature farm tools, including water-powered trip-hammers, plow harrows and oil expellers.

"Don't be fooled by their small size," said Chen. "They can function as well their normal-sized counterparts."

Chen's 40-centimeter water-powered trip-hammer can be used to punch wheat through water injection or by electric power.

As Chen has become more famous, city dwellers are now flocking to his studio to buy the tools, which make for ideal house decorations.

Chen said that he wants to continue to make the farm tools and hopefully teach city-dwellers about how they contribute to the production of daily food necessities.
